Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she realized she wanted to be an actor. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she studied acting as well as singing. From the age of 10 the actress took part in and performed the main role in a number of Stagecoach School plays and productions. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were chosen to play the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance in a film was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. It was also the most successful film of 2001. Its opening days and weekends of sales were record-breaking. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, particularly the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's acting "amazing". In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a feature Film.
